As we march ever forward into the month of February I have to stop and reflect back on the year I've just had. I've been performing regularly on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas for 13 months now and I can honestly say that it's true, working as a street magician hones your chops faster than working in any theater.
Being out here every day has definitely helped me as a performer. Many of my favorite magicians started their careers on the streets and it feels like I'm paying my dues to that tradition. I've made many new friends while working out here and since I don't have a traditional 9-5 anymore, I've been able to focus my efforts to other things I want to do.
One of those efforts was just announced this morning and I am proud to say that I won the Great Steampunk Talent Search and so have been selected to perform at the Steampunk World's Fair in Piscataway, NJ on May 5th-7th!
I really got my start doing big shows at Steampunk conventions. In the early days I got to perform on the busking stage at the Gaslight Gathering in San Diego and then I was a featured performer on the Queen Mary in Long Beach for Her Royal Majesty's Steampunk Symposium. But the Steampunk World's Fair is going to be the biggest Steampunk event I've performed at and this will be my first time in New Jersy. I'm very excited for this opportunity and I can't wait to be there!
Aside from that, I have other news that's even MORE exciting but unfortunately, I'm not allowed to talk about it yet. Stay tuned for all the awsomeness. SCIENCE!
